For my personal projects, my trusty 2018 Dell XPS 13" is still my go-to. I find it a perfect balance of size and comfort (and the built in MicroSD gets bonus points for convenience).
For work, though, I have an Apple MacBook Pro M4. Not by preference, but because it gives me access to the tools I need to support a fleet that roughly split 50/50 between macOS and Windows. I have no specific gripe against the device, and I'll happily take a unix enviroment.
Today, while doing some heavy text based work (defining Azure infrastructure with Bicep), something unexpected stood out.
The internal edges of the MacBook Pro are sharp. Not visually... physically.
After a couple of hours, I really started noticing it. And by the end of my work session, I had visible red marks on my wrists from the front edge of the chassis.
It is a strange trade-off. The solid chassis, almost machined to perfection. That same precision seems to come at the cost of comfort in longer sessions.
It made me wonder: when did sharp edges become synonymous with premium design?
And more importantly... should they be?
